fliorix: Emergency Operations Platform for Fire Departments – built & operated by RiKuWe

With fliorix we develop and operate our own emergency response and administration platform for fire departments: from dispatching through the real-time situation map to the incident report – on the control-room monitor and on the smartphone in the field. This case study shows how we build as a product team on our own infrastructure.

Challenge​

In everyday firefighting, demanding requirements meet grown-over siloed solutions:

• Incident command, personnel management, vehicles, hydrants, and drills often live in separate systems – or on paper
• In an operation every second counts: the platform has to respond reliably and fast, even under load
• Fire department, district, and state need a shared situational picture – yet each level may only see and manage its own area
• Members' personal data demands GDPR-compliant data storage in Europe
• Web administration and mobile app must work on the same data – no black box, no vendor lock-in

Solution: One Product on Our Own Infrastructure​

fliorix is a product of RiKuWe GmbH – development, operations, and ongoing evolution come from a single source. The platform runs on the same infrastructure we operate for our customers:

• Operated on a Kubernetes cluster in European data centers
• PostgreSQL with PostGIS as the foundation for the real-time situation map and geodata
• Keycloak-based login with a fine-grained role model – from superadmin down to crew
• Multi-tenancy for fire department, district, and state in one platform
• GraphQL API and open standards: the data stays accessible
• Automated CI/CD pipelines for web and mobile app
• Monitoring & alerts and automated backups for operations you have to rely on in an emergency
