Velero – Kubernetes Backups with Structure

Velero doesn’t just back up data – it secures the entire environment.
We use Velero to reliably protect Kubernetes PersistentVolumes and important cluster resources – with recovery and offsite options included.

Why Velero?​

Velero is the standard backup solution for Kubernetes environments. It provides:

• Backup of PersistentVolumes (data)
• Backup of namespaces, deployments, config maps, etc. (metadata)
• One-click restore automation
• Integration with S3-compatible storage

How we implement Velero​

We configure Velero to match your infrastructure – based on cluster size, volume availability, and your preferred retention policy:

• Scheduled backups (e.g. daily or multiple times per day)
• Flexible retention per job (days, weeks, months)
• Automated recovery tests
• Optional: Offsite backups to external storage (e.g. another region or provider)

Velero covers things like:

• Databases inside Kubernetes PVs
• Application data & uploads
• Configuration (Secrets, Services, Ingresses)
• Helm releases, StatefulSets, Deployments

Velero also works in private clouds or on-premises clusters – we tailor storage targets and backup strategies to your setup.

If you're hosted by RiKuWe, we recommend an additional offsite backup target to stay resilient in case of disaster recovery.
